The band

Kiss (often stylized KIϟϟ) is an American hard rock band formed on January 3, 1973 in New York by Paul Stanley (guitar), Gene Simmons (bass), Peter Criss (drums) and Ace Frehley (guitar). The group is best known for their face paintings and theatrical stage costumes. Kiss had its breakthrough in the mid to late 1970s. A strong contributor to this was the group’s spectacular live performances including firefighting, bloodshed, smoking guitars, explosions, floating drum kits and pyrotechnics.

The man behind the exhibition

Alexander Johansson, comes from Falköping and has always been a collector. In 1984, at the age of 7, his fascination shifted from reading Spider-Man comics to following Kiss. Initially, his collection consisted of him and his friends exchanging Okay posters with each other.

In 1988 he saw the band live for the first time. Since then, he has seen the band over 160 times on five different continents. Alexander has also met the band a number of times. As Alexander got older and his income increased, his interest in collecting grew and today he has one of Scandinavia’s largest collections.

In 2004, Alexander had his first exhibition in connection with a KISS event in Stockholm. Since then, he has had 29 exhibitions throughout Sweden. In 2017, the exhibition reached beyond Sweden’s borders and went to Åland’s Cultural History Museum in Mariehamn and in 2018 it opened for the first time in Norway at the prestigious National Museum of Norwegian popular music, Rockheim in Trondheim.

Alexander’s favorite piece in the exhibition is without a doubt Paul Stanley’s black spandex suit from the Rock ’n’ Roll Over tour 1976/1977.
